Far Better Than Sacrifice

Obedience is better than sacrifice, and to hearkeneth than the fat of rams.
The altar of sacrifice is good
But the attitude of
obedience is far far better

Words In Season:

"Proving to God you love Him goes beyond giving Him money, because money is not everything" The King's Scribe

"....Hath The LORD as great delight in burn offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of The LORD? Behold to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

               I Samuel 15:22

Not all of us are that stingy and tight fisted when it comes to raw cash.
There are Christians who are ready to bribe God with millions, if only He can alter, fine tune and adjust His Word "thou shall not commit adultery" And give them free hands to be having extra marital affairs. They will give God anything He asks to repeal this decree. As long as it is cash.
Yes, you prove to God that you love Him by giving Him and honouring Him with your substance. After all He gave you the only Son He has. BUT that's not all.
You prove to God you love Him by doing what pleases Him, loving what He loves and hating what He hates. Bob Gass of "Word For Today" defined holiness as:
consciousness of what offends and pleases God.
And I seconded his motion on the house floor by adding mine - holiness is consciousness of what God allows and forbids. God instructed Adam and Eve in the garden "of the trees of the garden thou mayest FREELY eat" -  allowed. "But of the trees of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat" - forbidden.
What still baffled me was that the tree of life was among the trees that were allowed  and not forbidden. How come the eyes of Adam and Eve did not go to this tree and eat thereof before the serpent came calling? Because whoever eats of tree shall never die. And the tree was among the trees allowed in the garden. I leave this question for another day.
Jesus said "this ye ought to do, and not leaving others undone"
Giving to God and leaving weightier matters of the Kingdom is not acceptable before God. Jesus own stand point is that. And mine too.
Among the first foundational teachings I had one on one with The Holy Spirit after yielding my life to Christ is what I will call the syllabus  of love.
I would rather summarise it here because of space.
That when you love somebody, you won't do what harms him or hurt his feelings nor displeases him, be it God or man.
When you love a man, you won't steal his property, because he will feel bad missing his things:-
"Thou shall not steal"

When you love a man, you won't lie or bear false witness against him, because he will feel very bad and bitter about it. And it may even cost him his job if not his life!
"Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbour"
When you love a man you won't sleep with his wife, because when he finds out, or catch you in the act, both of you won't find it funny:-
"Thou shall not commit adultery"
And so on and so forth....
Same goes for God.
To give attention to another god, worship and obey that god in place of God Himself will not only anger God but make God jealous. Much more of ascribing His glory to that strange God.
"Thou shall have no other God beside Me"
In summary, love is all about caring how God and others feel.
But when I finally stepped into the Church and began to hear that a brother can decide to stab you in the back, drive a 4inch nail into your right eyes and you dare not say "oouch" or "yéèèè" but endure and even forgive him for the damage, I began to feel dizzy.
Any wonder the church has become the centre of iniquity? Where brethren now take God's love as liberty for license to commit all kind sacrileges against God and one another? Where brothers defraud one another and the victim instead of getting justice is being asked to forgive or........
Really, forgiving someone is not the big deal, understanding that it is even for your own very sake, not for the sake of the offender. Simple emotional intelligence!
But a case of no principle of fair hearing in the house of God!?
Some churches even now ask victims of such acts to grease the palm of workers that will handle the matters, in order to get justice. I personally witnessed this. And that day I feel like the ground should open up and swallow all of us there!
Yes, out of shock and shame! Bribery to get justice in the house of God? The man even smartly quoted the scriptures to support this "thou shall not come before The Lord empty handed"
Is it these men he is referring to as The Lord here or The Lord of hosts Who never accept bribes nor persons of men? Any wonder then, the Bible said judgement will start from the Household of God.
I know some brethren are ready to bribe God with millions, for Him to look the other way, and start judgement else where. Maybe from a shrine or from a tavern. But no, He will start right from His Own House, before going to His next port of call - the house of His adversaries.
If the righteous be scarcely saved, what then shall become of you that is still out there. Repent of your sins today, accept Jesus as Lord and saviour and be saved from the wrath of God that is coming upon the sons of disobedience.
