I picked up “Unequally Yoked” last week at the Fort Benning, Georgia PX. Once I started reading it, I literally did not put it down until I was finished reading it. I’ve heard people say that before, but it really rings true in the portrayal of these characters and events in this book. As a woman who served in the military for 12 plus years, I can certainly identify with Claudette. As a military spouse, I felt drawn into this young woman’s story. Too often, we don’t listen to our parents. I found myself thanking God and appreciating my mother for the prior engagement of marriage that I had given up as young woman. An engagement that would have likely led to the same types of trials and dilemmas that Claudette faced as a young married woman. One of my mother’s favorite quotes is "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans." I am so glad that I waited and listened to my mother. It’s not that young people can’t be happily married at all, but the moral in this story is being careful about whom you do marry.  I have a younger sister, who just turned 18. We are really close and she will be getting this book. Even though she is only 18, she acknowledges the fact that she has made mistakes where boys are concerned. I hope “Unequally Yoked” builds on her commitment to dedicate herself to her dreams and ambitions and be sure that she is not rushing into something that could potentially ruin or end her life. 

 You should offer this book to more military installations. Perhaps agencies like Social Work Services that deal with domestic violence. I believe agencies such as Army Community Services that help young Soldiers’ spouses find jobs through Employment Readiness and Financial Readiness, which assist with financial management through check writing may also benefit from your book. Finally, I feel that you should offer it to installation Chaplains Offices around military installations. This is a great book. I recommend it to everyone. You should check out the site for Army Wives, the TV show on Lifetime. Perhaps you could be a guest speaker. I already posted this comment on the Lifetime website. Check it out.

I wanted to stop in and say it was a great pleasure in meeting you yesterday(10/3/08) at the Fort Benning P.X. I just finished your book and it bought tears to my eyes as well as it also bought out a fire inside of me that I never could bring out when I too was being abused. I can't wait till the sequel comes out as I plan on buying it. I started reading yesterday afternoon and finished it this evening, just over 24 hours. I just couldn't put the book down! When you told me that god had plans for us I think I know what your's is. You were left here to spread the word that there is hope and help out there to women in abusive relationships and that no matter what we have to face that god will always be there with us and he will always provide a way. In the days of reality this, and reality that, Lorraine Thomas has penned an exceptional story with a genuine dose of reality that you will come to love. Unequally Yoked exposes a silent plague that has remained as such in our society for far too long. It is a gentle reminder to us all that we each have a responsibility of revealing the ugliness of domestic violence.  While the characters may be fictional, they will remind you of someone you know. Let not their adolescence sway the seriousness of the subject because it affects both women and men of all ages. The textures of this story blend together like fine silk tapestry waiting to be experienced. Lorraine invites her reader into the heart of each character as a gamut of emotions will follow your reading journey. We should all brace ourselves for the sophomore release of this great story teller because this one is a winner!

Hi, Mrs. Thomas!  My name is Alycia, from Robins AFB BX, and I bought your book Monday.  I just finished it up tonight.  I really enjoyed it.  I talked to my Mom today and I told her about, and she stopped me mid sentence and told me to send it to her when I was done.  It was a really good book though.  Mama is always right and Claudette or Dee Dee quickly found out.  I wanted so badly for her and Walter to work on some type of friendship at least.  I think he is perfect for her.  If they ever had more than a friendship, I think it would be the type of relationship that her parents had.  So, in the sequel that you're working on, are you going to bring Claudette and Walter back together?  And what happened to that horrible husband of hers?  I hope he got kicked out of the military and jail time.  Well Mrs. Thomas, overall this was an excellent book.  I will make sure my 17 year old sister reads it also.  I wish you much success and I can't wait until the sequel comes out.  Thanks!

 I finally sat down to read your book, I couldn't put it down. Because its so many people in the military is having the same issues that DeeDee. I just want to know one thing is she ever going to see Walter again? Is Rodney going to call to complain about how much trouble he is in? It was a really good book. My 14 year old daughter is getting ready to read it also. It will be a good thing because she want to go to the Navy. Again it was a good book.
